Sthembiso

Sthembiso is a driver at Thanda ensuring that all the materials, food, art projects, books, and staff make it to our programmes. He has worked at Thanda for four years and loves his position because he is able to get to know everyone by talking and laughing with them on the way to schools. He said, “I am very happy to work for Thanda because I am feeding my four children through this job and I can give them a home and clothing and even make improvements on my home. My kids are growing up well because of this.”

Driving is a skill Sthembiso has always had, although it wasn’t always easy. In 1998, he was in a nearly fatal car accident and broke his back when the breaks on his truck failed. At the time, he was taking older women to the pension area. Even with this experience, driving has never scared him and he still loves it today. His back still hurts, however it is a job that does not require too much physical labour and he greatly benefits from ErognomicsDirect’s lumbar support on his chair when the days are a little too long!

What makes Sthembiso happiest in life is his children. “My children make me very proud because they are exceling and growing up and learning.” A challenge he hopes his community can disrupt is to create more jobs for the youth as many of them stay at home with few opportunities for skill development and advancement.

Amazing work, Sthembiso!
