Our Impact Report shows exactly that!
The EFFECT that Thanda and the work we do in the community of Mtwalume in rural KwaZulu Natal has had on PEOPLE in this under-served community over 2020/2021.

Our intention is always to be a catalyst for positive change in the lives of the people we serve and, notwithstanding the worldwide challenges presented in 2020/2021, our data shows that we managed to do so. Through perseverance, agility, grace, amended programmes, dedicated hard work and, most of all, FUN.

Our Early Learning and Education Programmes are centred around fun, play and storybooks. Even with disturbances in the learning environment, and modifications to some of the programmes themselves, our methodologies stood strong as we saw notable improvements in assessed metrics (numeracy, literacy, empathy, creativity, critical thinking and perspective) across the board. Our Organic Farming Initiative thrived during the pandemic as it offered a consistent source of nourishing food when shops were locked down and people were nervous to venture too far from their homes. Having organic, reasonably priced vegetables available right in the heart of the community enabled many families to keep healthy food on the table after Thanda’s Emergency Food Parcel Delivery intervention came to an end.
This Initiative also expanded into other areas – like Household Gardens and Youth Farms!

In the midst of uncertainty, constant changes in lockdown levels and other challenges, we managed to both expand some programmes to help more children and launch new programmes too! We did this by identifying gaps where assistance was needed and developing resources to empower community members in these areas.
