We love the movie Brave! Without giving too many spoilers away, Merida, the courageous daughter of a Scottish King and Queen, is a skilled archer who wants to carve her own path in life. Her defiance of an old-age tradition angers the lords and causes chaos in her kingdom. She seeks help from a witch and now must discover the true meaning of bravery and undo this curse before it is too late. Not only do we broaden our cultural understanding and perspective of Zulu and Scottish cultures, we discuss a lot of themes and lessons from the movie. The most important are the importance of listening, and why people might have a hard time listening to one another or valuing others perspectives, the dangers of being selfish, and the changing roles of women in modern day societies.
