Museum of Modern Art, here we come!

Our Grades 4 & 5 and 6 & 7 groups have been working on a very special project recently. Learners each received a piece of paper with a few lines drawn on it – nothing more. They were instructed to paste tiny bits of newspaper in between the lines, but they didn’t know what they were making or what it would form in the end.

Once everyone completed their individual sheets of paper, we planned a day for the groups (all from different schools) to come to our Art Centre and figure out what this newspaper blob was all about. Typically, when the schools in our community come together, it’s to compete in sports tournaments or things of that nature, but this was one of the few times that learners had an opportunity to work collaboratively rather than competitively.

Piece by piece, the puzzles started coming together. The two Grades 6 & 7 groups formed a zebra (photo featured above), as they’d recently learned about conservation. Our other two groups of Grades 4 & 5 learners have yet to complete their masterpiece…any guesses as to what it might be?
